    ABOUT / OUR STORY

    From a research thesis
    to a decision system.

Marres began with a bounded question about customer retention and grew into a platform for connecting evidence, uncertainty and action.

    01 / ORIGIN

Marres did not begin with a plan to build a decision platform. It grew from a series of questions that the existing code could not yet answer—each form giving way to the next when its boundaries became too visible to ignore.

What follows is an account of that progression: three documented forms, three governing questions, and the reasoning that moved the work forward each time.

THE CODE CHANGED AS THE QUESTION CHANGED

Marres did not begin with a plan to build a decision platform. It developed through three documented forms. Each emerged when the previous code could no longer contain the question being asked of it.

    I

    The Instrument

    · Applied research prototype

    What should Pahat Pahit improve?

The first code was built inside a study of customer retention. It gathered reviews, observations, sales records and competitor evidence, then organised them into four domains: service, atmosphere, food and drinks, and value for money.

The workflow compared Pahat Pahit with its peers, estimated relationships between the domains, simulated an improvement in each one and selected the intervention with the greatest apparent opportunity.

Its world was deliberately small: one organisation, four levers and one pressing management question. But it established the idea that would endure.

Evidence should not terminate in description. It should point towards action.
    THE DIFF

Research evidence became executable. A report learned to recommend a move.

    II

    The Model

    · Marres–Ramjet formalisation

What if generating demand is not the same as being ready to receive it?

The second form began when intervention ranking proved too narrow. Improving a customer-facing score could not explain whether an organisation possessed the capacity to convert the resulting demand.

The code's world expanded. Strategic resources were divided between outward activation and the structures required to sustain it. Conversion capacity, visibility, referral propagation and market power became explicit conditions. Goodwill could accumulate, persist and decay.

Most importantly, activation acquired a ceiling. Attention beyond the organisation's absorptive capacity could become congestion rather than growth.

The answer was no longer a single lever. It became a balance that changed with the state of the organisation.

Growth depends not only on how much demand is created, but on how much demand can be realised.
    THE DIFF

The intervention became a system. The code learned that more could become too much.

    III

    The Field

    · Persistent decision platform

Under what conditions can a decision be trusted?

The third form emerged when the model itself was no longer enough. A defensible decision required its surrounding evidence, assumptions, alternatives, uncertainties and history to remain connected.

The code reorganised itself around an Investigation. Evidence became a traceable artefact. Alternatives became explicit. Modelling, simulation, robustness and decision acquired separate readiness states. Each capability received only the context it needed. Success and failure entered a shared history, while unsupported conclusions were prevented from appearing complete.

Competitors changed from rows in a comparison table into actors whose behaviour could be simulated, observed and recalibrated. The final Brief stopped being merely the last output of a pipeline. It became the earned synthesis of what the investigation could support.

The system no longer exists only to produce an answer. It preserves why the answer was reached, where it may fail and what reality teaches next.
    THE DIFF

The system became a field. The code learned to remember, qualify and revise a decision.

The first code searched for an intervention. The second represented the organisation. The third preserves the conditions under which organisational judgement becomes accountable.
